Making the right connections
| Article marketing has been around as long as print itself. It has made a hugely successful move to the online world. It works so well because everybody gets something for free - publishers (and site visitors) get free content while advertisers get free advertising. How does it work? Anyone can be an article author and post an article in what is known as an article directory . You don't pay because the directory owner puts ads on each article page and makes money from that. What do you get in return? Well, each article can contain a bio box, resource box, by-line or links pointing back to a given website. These can include references and contact information for your business. So a series of well-written articles - released for free - can boost your business credibility and crucially - attract new clients. The article directory site gradually increases its own search engine popularity as more articles are posted, so both the author and the directory benefit from increased visitor numbers and therefore article page views. If you are smart, your articles will be aimed at a specific market and contain particular keywords relevant to that market. Critically you will distribute the article to content publishers / directory owners that cater to those markets. There are sites that collate articles across a huge range of subjects - for example www.articlesbase.com but these classify the articles by content. However, real impact will come from putting an article about a given subject where the audience is already interested. For example a piece on "How to fit a car kit" will go do a storm on a car kit enthusiast web site. A word to the wise however - because of the huge success of article marketing, there is a lot of junk content out there. A smart article marketer will dig deep into their own businesses and their potential customers' concerns to tactfully persuade them to click through to their web sites. The articles below are those I have commissioned from a professional writer working in PR and marketing in the UK. As you will see they all come in around 400-600 words (any more and people will simply switch off). Because I am interested in internet marketing and running my own business online, the articles reflect that. You don't have to commission anyone - I just find it easier to have someone write for me. If you can string a sentence together and use a spell check, you are pretty much there
